Google Drive users have been claiming that files have been deleted from their accounts since the last day. Users from many parts of the world, including Turkey, have contacted Google’s support forums. Some account holders said that files dating back to May have disappeared. So what happened to Google Drive user data?
Google Drive user data has disappeared
According to information shared on Google’s complaint forums, users are having trouble accessing their Drive files. For example, one user said that when he logged into his Drive account, all his folders reverted back to the way they were in May.
On the other hand, another user claimed that six months of work data stored in Drive disappeared without any information. Although the cause is still unknown, some people think that file synchronization has stopped working. This led to cloud storage not being updated and files disappearing.
Google’s support team said they are investigating the issue. The company advised not to make any changes to user folders and did not elaborate on the error that caused the data to be lost.
For users who store important information on Drive, this brings some problems. It should be noted that even major cloud providers such as Google are experiencing problems. Therefore, we recommend you to store your important files in different locations.
It is unclear whether there is a cyber attack behind the loss of Google Drive data. While the technology giant has not yet made an official statement, it underlined that user security is not shaken.
